PROF. MEENU SARAF, VISITING SCIENTIST AT DSMZ, GERMANY

Professor (Dr) Meenu Saraf, Director School of Sciences and HOD of Department of Microbiology and
Biotechnology, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. She is a WISER Awardee from Indo German Science and
Technology Centre, DST, Govt. Of India (2022). Prof Saraf got the opportunity to carry out her research work
on a collaborative project titled- “Nutrient Dynamics and Functional Aspects of Microbial Diversity in saline
Soils”.
As a part of her grant, she visited Germany as

Visiting Scientist at Leibniz Institute DSMZ-
German Collection of Microorganisms and
Cell Cultures, Braunschweig for three weeks
(Nov – Dec 2023). Her host is Prof. Dr. Jörg
Overmann, Director at DSMZ.

At DSMZ she got the opportunity to learn
about their robot controlled German
Collection of Microorganisms and Cell
Cultures GmbH, harbouring more than
40,000 microorganisms.

She interacted with renowned scientists
working with large digital diversity resources.

INTERACTION WITH DR P V LALITHA

Interaction with Dr P V Lalitha , Chief Scientific Officer, IGSTC- Indo
German Science and Technology Centre, New Delhi at the School Of
Sciences (Oct- 5, 2023)

On the 5 Oct 2023 at 12 noon, Prof Meenu Saraf , Director School Of
Sciences, welcomed Dr P V Lalitha , Chief Scientific Officer, IGSTC- DST at
the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology.

Dr Lalitha interacted with all faculty of all Science Departments and gave
information regarding the various schemes operated by IGSTC for all
categories of researchers and faculties.

The fruitful exchange allowed the faculty to gain a comprehensive
understanding of the avenues offered by IGSTC, fostering a spirit of
collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the academic realm. This event
undoubtedly played a crucial role in strengthening the ties between the
academic institution and the prestigious IGSTC-DST.
