Ancient Wisdom for Young Aspiring India
The strength of India is its rich knowledge tradition. Since ages the wisdom of Indian
scriptures has enlightened the path of the world. The Indian Culture is the symbol of living
scientific knowledge system. These systems have been passed down through generations
and have played a significant role in shaping India’s history and culture. However, with the
advent of modern science and globalisation, there has been a shift towards Western
scientific knowledge, leading to the neglect of IKS in mainstream education. IKS can offer
valuable insights and solutions to contemporary challenges, particularly in areas such as
health, agriculture, and sustainable living. Good governance or Sushasan is an inheritance
from India’s ancient culture and ethos.
The National Education Policy encapsulates two credit courses giving an overview of
Indian culture and traditions in the first years of both the UG and PG programmes in
varsities across the country, in the form of the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) The main
areas being covered are parampara (tradition), drishti (perspective), and loukik prayojan
(modern relevance) of ancient Indian knowledge systems.
We at Gujarat University have introduced this in our syllabus with all their depth and
richness. By including them in the curriculum, the aim is to inspire youngsters to be proud
of their heritage and to learn more about it. The wisdom of the past lies hope for the
future. That wisdom can improve our own lives and the lives of those around us.
As Srimad Bhagwad Gita depicts the philosophy of education, we follow the path.
इदं तु ते गु तमं व या यनसूयवे ।
ानं व ानस हतं य ा वा मो यसेऽशुभात्
Best wishes to one and all
